Vice Captains Prize Presentation from Gerry King to Captain Herbie Wilkins (2021) Many thanks to Herbie for his 5 years of service to Cill Dara GC. 3 Years as Treasurer, Vice Captain and Captain.
Last weekend showed the true warmth and heart that Cill Dara is renowned for. Our friend Bernie Marum is going through a tough time and a fundraiser was held to show our appreciation for her. A scramble was held on Fri, Sat and Sunday and Paddy Dawson, Alex Dick and Danny Comerford provided the prizes. Teams turned up and played as the organisers hoped and a very successful weekend finished with a presentation to Bernie and prizes handed out to the Mens, Ladies & Mixed Teams first and second. The warmest wishes to all involved, a good thing was done.

Winter Golf is fast approaching and in its usual fashion, the Mick Scully sponsored Winter League is kicking off on the 1st of November. Held over 5 weeks it will be the best 4 weeks scores that will be calculated and brought through to the Shotgun finish on the 12th of December (weather permitting). There will be 4 categories and a final prize for the best individual scores tally. It is open to Men & Ladies, of every ability – one score per week minimum will keep you in the hunt!. The sheet is up in the hall at the office. Any questions, please ask!
Last Sunday night a lingering question was answered – who is the vice captain? Gerry duly obliged and announced Mr Niall O’Donnell as his Vice Captain for the year ahead. Maria had already announced Ms Marguerite Rowan as her Vice Captain a few days before. Well done to all involved – Cill Dara is in very safe hands for the 2022 golfing year and going foward

To calculate a handicap for a qualifying competition please follow these instructions
Handicap Index is divided by 113.
Multiplied by 127 (Black), 124 (Yellow) , 116 (Red)
Multiply by 95% – Qualifying Competition
Example
Handicap Index – 21.5
Divided by 113 = 0.1902
Multiply by 127 (Black Course) = 24.16 …….. Round this number up or down = 24
Multiply by 0.95 = 22.8 – Qualifying Competition
Playing off (rounded up to) 23
A commitment to a more inclusive culture within golf
Across the globe, women as a whole have and continue to be under represented at all levels of the Golf Club, namely; categories of membership, access to the course, access to competitions, coaching, refereeing and leadership opportunities. Over the past 15 years there has been a noticeable shift in all areas mentioned above, particularly in the Republic of Ireland largely due to the Equal Status Act.
In 1991, just 13% of female members were “allowed” to attend their club AGM’s, with only 7% having a vote. This is one of the largest shifts in modern day club membership with 51% of females now having full membership and voting rights in their club, his differs significantly in Northern Ireland where just 15% of women are full members.
However, with women and girls making up 22% of Golf Club membership across 368 Golf Clubs and only half of them having full rights there is a clear opportunity to improve the voice of women and the support available to clubs across the country in Golf Ireland.
A key objective of Golf Ireland is to promote equality and inclusivity in golf across the island of Ireland. While many Golf Clubs are already committed to this objective, statistics from a recent survey shows that challenges continue to exist in terms of fairness for all particularly in the areas of membership, timesheet access, coaching and governance.
